Duggan discussing Amazonian warrior fairy tales by French women writers—these fables were actually quite popular in France in the 17th century and one tale by Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy was staged and eventually turned into a board game in Victorian England—her Maiden Warrior tale was popular until the end of the 19th century.
