ESL Endorsement Information for Global Educational Excellence
This event is in the past.
6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Our programs offer a deeper understanding of the important role that language and culture play in the teaching and learning process. Teachers who teach emergent bilinguals (or students with a home language learning the target language such as English) benefit from our program in that they can develop intercultural knowledge, pedagogical skills, and teacher efficacy (confidence) to meet the needs of their students.
Obtaining an endorsement in our ESL or bilingual education program can significantly enhance a teacher's ability to support students and families in diverse educational settings. A specialized endorsement equips teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively address the unique needs of English language learners of emergent bilingual students. By understanding the principles of second language acquisition, differentiated instruction, and the importance of cultural competence, educators can create inclusive learning environments that cater to the diverse linguistic abilities of their students. This fosters academic success and promotes a sense of belonging and cultural appreciation. Ultimately, the benefits of such endorsements extend beyond the classroom, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive educational experience for both students and their families.
Presenters include:
Dr. Lisa Westbrooks, BBE/ESL Cohort Coordinator and Faculty
Dr. Stella Moceri Seilo, BBE/ESL Academic Services Officer I and Graduate Advisor
