Educational Objectives

  1. Discuss the opioid epidemic and how we can help
  2. Describe alternatives to opioids for pain management
  3. Recognize the importance of treatment integration in your practice
  4. Utilize risk assessment tools prior to prescribing controlled substance
  5. Incorporate patient education about goals of treatment, risks associated with opioids and other controlled substances, and proper disposal of prescriptions
  6. Utilize proper prescribing and monitoring techniques for controlled substances
  7. Recognize the risks of long term opioid use
  8. Recognize the risk of forced opioid weaning and benefit of collaborating with your patient
  9. Review state and federal laws regarding prescribing and dispensing controlled substances
  10. Recognize and begin to dismantle addiction stigma
  11. Utilize harm reduction techniques when prescribing opioids
