EVENT DESCRIPTION: 

This webinar will focus on regional efforts to expand MOUD/AUD care through Rural Health Clinics in northern lower Michigan. These efforts include standardization of care, staff and community education, and building recovery networks.  

PRESENTERS:

  • Jean Kerver, PhD, MS, RD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University (MSU). As a perinatal epidemiologist and a registered dietitian, Kerver has spent her career developing effective ways to promote health and well-being for families living in poverty or facing other challenges. Dr. Kerver’s position in Traverse City, MI, allows her to mentor MSU medical students and Family Medicine residents in conducting rural research projects while pursuing her goal of developing a community-driven research agenda.
  • Susan Kramer, LMSW, CCS, CAADC is a clinical social worker with 29 years of clinical experience and 15 years of Behavioral Health leadership experience in both residential and outpatient settings. She currently works as the Behavioral Health Practice Administrator for Munson Healthcare in Traverse City, MI. She is passionate about improving the parity of behavioral health within larger healthcare settings with a particular focus on improving access to care. With her new role, Kramer will support and expand behavioral health service development and regional efforts to improve behavioral health access in the nine-hospital system.

Communities across Michigan are receiving funds from recent opioid settlements that should be used to support evidence-based programs for preventing or treating opioid-related harms. The goal of this monthly series of educational webinars is to share information and assist county, city, and township officials who have received settlement funding and are involved and/or interested in learning more about evidence-based practices and strategies to help remediate opioid overdoses in their communities.
