MANifest: A Men of Color Mental Health Symposium

On July12th and 13th, Affecting Change Detroit, in collaboration with Wayne State University’s Association of Black Social Workers, and the Black and Latinx Male SW Initiative will host the inaugural MANifest, a Men of Color Mental Health Symposium. This two-day event hosted by Andre Charley, LMSW at the Art Block and on the campus of Wayne State University will feature keynote speaker Hill Harper and explore the male identity, the struggle, and the power.

DAY 1 - Welcome Reception: Friday, July 12, 2024 from 6:30 - 10:30 pm EST at ArtBlock (1411 Bolden St., Detroit, MI 48208)
- Includes a meet and greet soul food dinner, spoken word, live entertainment, chair massages, and special guests Bryce The Third and R.A. Cranford.
DAY 2 - A Men of Color Mental Health Symposium: Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 9 am - 5 pm EST at the WSU McGregor Memorial Conference Center (495 Ferry Mall, Detroit, MI 48202)
The symposium will include workshops, a panel discussion for men and women, explorations of the daily pressures of a man and navigating fatherhood, raffles and give-a-ways, venders, and more. This event is geared towards making a meaningful impact in the Detroit community by focusing on the following topics:
- Address the complexities of male identity, including societal expectations, cultural influences, and personal experiences.
- Explore cultural and societal factors that may impact men of color's access to mental health support and resources.
- Foster dialogue around the intersections of masculinity, dating relationships, gender roles, race, and mental health.
- Empowerment and resilience: Equipping men of color with tools for self-care and seeking help
