Since 2007, Wayne State University's Department of Music has teamed up with the Detroit Jazz Festival to offer high school students Jazz Week@Wayne, a week-long workshop focused on jazz education. Renamed J.C. Heard JazzWeek@Wayne in 2012 to honor support from the Heard family, the program integrates the legacy of renowned jazz drummer J.C. Heard into its curriculum and activities.
