My Global Health Journey

The Wayne State University School of Medicine Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) welcomes all members of our community to join us for a special interactive in-person discussion.
This talk will cover Dr. Rouba Ali-Fehmi, M.D. experiences and initiatives in global health, including the development of a medical research training program, collaborative projects in Lebanon, and efforts to support medical education in crisis-affected regions. The presentation highlights the impact of mentorship, research, and international partnerships in advancing health equity and addressing global healthcare challenges.

Guest Speaker:
Dr. Rouba Ali-Fehmi is a professor of pathology and the Director of Breast Pathology and Breast Pathology Fellowship at the University of Michigan. She is also a member of Global Reach at Michigan Medicine and a member of the Center of Global Health Equity at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Ali-Fehmi is very interested and dedicated to teaching and research. Over the course of her career, she has mentored many gynecologic oncology and pathology fellows, which ultimately led to more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and presentations, both at national and international meetings. Her research includes the histopathology and biological characteristics of ovarian and uterine malignancy, and her global work focuses on breast pathology and gynecologic pathology, with a particular interest in medical- and health-related topics in Arab countries and the Arab American population. She is also active in advocating for public health issues impacting refugee populations and has supported Syrian refugees’ education.
Dr. Ali-Fehmi is also the former president of the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) and the founder and current chair of NAAMA NextGen, which supports Arab American healthcare students in the US.
