Please join our special guests President Kimberly Andrews Espy and Provost Laurie Lazon Clabo, along with the leaders of the Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) group at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, for this unique opportunity to meet and mingle with your colleagues and learn more about the resources and opportunities WIMS offers.

About WIMS

The Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) group at Wayne State University School of Medicine aims to advance women at all career levels within academic medicine and science by addressing gender equity, recruitment and retention, awards and recognition, work-life balance, and career advancement by actively engaging with all members of our community regardless of gender. WIMS hosts events open to all interested men and women faculty, staff and students within academic medicine and science to help achieve these goals.

President Espy

President Espy

Kimberly Andrews Espy, Ph.D., is the 13th president of Wayne State University. She began serving in this role on Aug. 1, 2023, and was formally installed by the Wayne State Board of Governors during an investiture ceremony on March 18, 2024.  

A leader with more than 25 years of experience in higher education, President Espy previously served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), where she championed social and economic opportunity by promoting affordable access to a top-quality research university education. 

President Espy received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Rice University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical neuropsychology from the University of Houston. She also completed a clinical/pediatric psychology internship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine/Bingham Child Guidance Center and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She is a licensed clinical psychologist, and a native of Cincinnati. 

Provost Clabo

Provost Clabo

Laurie Lauzon Clabo,Ph.D., R.N., FAAN serves as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Wayne State University. As Chief Academic Officer, Provost Clabo has direct responsibility for WSU’s 13 schools and colleges and oversees all matters related to the instructional mission of the university, student performance and retention, and academic personnel policies and decisions.

Provost Clabo has a strong background in academic leadership, including more than 14 years of experience as a successful dean. She most recently served as dean of WSU’s College of Nursing and is a nationally recognized expert in nursing and interprofessional education.

Provost Clabo received her baccalaureate degree in nursing from the University of Windsor, her master’s in nursing administration from Dalhousie University in Halifax Nova Scotia and her Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Rhode Island.
