Music and Dance Rooted in Afro-Latinidad

Ballet Folklórico de Wayne State University is hosting this event in honor of Black History Month. Our special guests will be highlighting music and dance that is rooted in Afro-Latinidad from Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Our special guests are Ricanstruction, which is a music/dance group that performs Bomba Afro-Puertorican Drumming and dance. Their founder is our very own Professor, Ozzie Gonzalez.
Our special guests also include David Ezekiel Herrera, a community arts educator from Salinas, CA. He commits himself to promoting arts, culture, and community through facilitating workshops on capoeira Angola and son Jarocho. As a teacher, he has facilitated son Jarocho workshops in the Portland, Oregon community, and given demonstration classes at My Voice Music in Portland and Garage Cultural in Detroit, MI.
