The Road Less Traveled: From Prison Cells to University Halls
4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
We are proud to announce the 2nd Lived Experience Speaker Series, sponsored by the School of Social Work and Alumni Affairs at Wayne State University, taking place in March in recognition of National Social Work Month.
This year’s event features Kevin Papuga and Larry West from the Center for Behavioral Health and Justice, who will share their personal journeys through the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) and beyond. After spending extended periods incarcerated in various Michigan correctional facilities, both Kevin and Larry went on to become WSU alumni.
They will discuss life before, during, and after incarceration, highlighting the barriers they faced, the resources that supported them, and the impact of stigmatizing language used by institutions and organizations.
All are welcome—we look forward to seeing you there!
