Alan Reuther: Roy Reuther and the UAW: Fighting for Workers and Civil Rights
This event is in the past.
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Join the Walter P. Reuther Library as we host Alan Reuther to celebrate his new book, Roy Reuther and the UAW: Fighting for Workers and Civil Rights. Alan will discuss the biography about his father, Roy Reuther, a leader of the Flint sit-down strike that gave rise to the UAW. The book chronicles Roy’s central involvement in the civil rights struggle, support for striking farmworkers, and efforts to expand registration and voting in elections, as well as his close work with icons Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Cesar Chavez.
Special guest UAW President Shawn Fain will discuss how the new biography provides timely context for many of the ongoing struggles in America today. As the Reuther Library celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, Library System Dean Paul Bracke will highlight the archive’s global impact documenting the contributions of workers and unions.
Books will be available for signing at the event.
