2025 WSU Juneteenth – From Reflection to Action: The Sankofa Series Presents: "Building Forward with Wisdom" – A Genealogy Discovery Event

As part of Wayne State University's 2025 Juneteenth programming, this interactive workshop invites participants to explore their family roots and uncover the stories that shaped their lineage. Attendees will learn practical genealogy strategies, such as tracing ancestry through digital tools and accessing historical records, under the guidance of professional genealogist, historian, and researcher Dr. Carolyn Carter.

This session, presented as part of From Reflection to Action: The Sankofa Series, honors the past while empowering participants to preserve and share their family histories for future generations.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Trace their family tree
  • Use online archives and databases
  • Discover ancestral connections
  • Preserve and document family history
