Black Studies as Life Studies in America and Beyond?
The WSU/Mellon Black Studies Faculty Enhancement Initiative invites you to join an important conversation exploring this question with an esteemed panel of scholars from across the United States.

As the inaugural event of the Detroit Center for Black Studies, this program seeks to expand understanding of Black Studies—an interdisciplinary academic field that examines the history, culture, politics, and lived experiences of people of African descent in the United States and around the world. Panelists will discuss the current state of the field and its relevance to our society today.

We are honored to welcome:

  • Dr. Jafari Allen, Columbia University
  • Dr. Charlene Gilbert, Clark Atlanta University
  • Dr. Charles McKinney, Rhodes College
  • Dr. Ula Taylor, University of California, Berkeley
  • Dr. Alford Young, University of Michigan

Joining them will be our own Dr. Kefentse Chike, contributing to what promises to be a dynamic and thought-provoking discussion.  This dynamic panel discussion will be facilitated by Akosua Barthwell Evans, J.D. Ph.D, CEO, The Barthwell Group, Inc.
