About the show: The BFA Dance Class of 2026 is thrilled to present its Capstone Showcase, what has been…what will be, a cultivation of seven works reflective of each choreographer’s artistic journey. Produced and choreographed by the senior BFA students, come experience an evening of reflective contemporary performance on January 23rd and 24th at the Hilberry Gateway Studio Theatre.

Each work dives into its own subject matter. Catey Selemba’s “over & over” explores the experience of an obsessive thought, spiraling endlessly towards a direction, a feeling, an idea.

Inspired by the phrase “if someone can trigger you, then they can control you,” Ryann Williford’s piece ‘Fatal Reactions/Signal the Knell’ reflects on how emotional triggers expose deeper patterns of self-control within an individual. Kara Smith’s “to the bone” explores the abstraction of bone, unfolding relationships between bodies and gravity through complex lenses of introspection. Gwen Vaughn's “Stream of Conscience Thoughts” ties movement together with a collection of poetry that reflect on cycles, the surfacing of memories, and generational trauma.

Maggie Weikert’s “we’re not made of porcelain” addresses the expectations of women, the pressures felt from worth being tied to appearance, and celebrates unapologetic femininity. Kate McAllister’s “who do you see?” explores themes of reflection, memory, fragmentation, and depth. Allie Isaacson’s “This is What it is All About” questions what regrets are left when we have everything to give?

what has been…what will be celebrates the layers of complexity in each individual throughout their four years at the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance. Complex experiences, social and political challenges, and uniting the connection between art and life drives this carousel-style concert.
