Weight Stigma in Social Work
This event is in the past.
The Wayne State University School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education is excited to host Sarah Ann Sullivan, MA for the training entitled, "Weight Stigma in Social Work." This training will define weight stigma and explain how it is a social justice issue and what social workers can do to combat it. We will discuss appropriate use of language and terminology when describing bodies, unpack some of the assumptions underlying the assumed relationship between weight and health, identify connections of weight stigma to other marginalized identities, and discuss the consequences of weight stigma. As we talk about the consequences of weight stigma, we will briefly explore warning signs of disordered eating. Finally, we will end with a list of weight-inclusive recommendations and resources for social workers and a question-and-answer session in the time remaining.
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Attendees can obtain 3 social work CECHs upon completion of the training, payment receipt and passing of the post-training quiz. A CECH certificate will be available for download upon completion of the aforementioned items.
COST: $25.00 for 3 CECHs. General admission is free for students.
