Title: Tate L-theory of Z and the Kervaire Invariant
Abstract: In this talk I will introduce the Tate L-theory spectrum of
the integers and compute its homotopy groups. Secondly, I will use it to
describe the Kervaire invariant of a stably framed manifold as an
absolute L-theoretic invariant. From this I will establish that an
element of non-trivial Kervaire invariant has Adams filtration at most
two. Combined with knowledge of the Adams spectral sequence for the
sphere, this recovers Browder's result on possibly non-trivial Kervaire
classes in degrees 2^{i+1}-2 This is joint work with Markus Land and
Thomas Nikolaus.
