The Office of Health Research invites the campus community to a bi-monthly Lunch and Learn series focused on various research topics, tools, best practices and important updates for Wayne State University faculty. The event is free; RSVP is required.
This event will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 12 PM to 1 PM. Please join us in an engaging presentation led by Jeff Neel, Strategic Engagement Manager for Academic Analytics. He has provided the following abstract:
Academic Analytics Overview
Academic Analytics is a data-driven academic business intelligence platform that aggregates comprehensive scholarly activity data—such as publications, citations, grants, and awards—to help universities increase research performance and make informed strategic decisions. It supports faculty development by providing tools that help identify funding opportunities, track research productivity, and connect researchers with potential collaborators, enabling faculty to enhance their scholarly impact and career advancement.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Make invisible collaboration visible and countable.
- Identifies interdisciplinary work that spans departments, programs, or colleges and is often difficult to capture in traditional review processes. In addition, the tools can help uncover external collaboration opportunities with scholars at other institutions.
Identify New Funding Opportunities: Help scholars efficiently discover and pursue funding opportunities tailored to their research profiles.
- The platform enables users to identify targeted funding prospects for individuals or teams, leveraging nine data variables to assess suitability and align opportunities with a scholar’s expertise and career stage.
- These capabilities benefit scholars by reducing the time spent searching for funding, enhancing the quality and competitiveness of proposals, promoting interdisciplinary partnerships, and expanding access to grant opportunities that align with institutional research priorities and individual career development goals.
Near-Peer and Disciplinary Publication Strategies: Provides powerful comparative and disciplinary insights that help illuminate publishing strategies across departments and peer universities.
- Enables universities to understand how their publication patterns align with or diverge from disciplinary norms and to identify areas where publishing strategies may need adjustment.
This is an in-person event, and it will not be recorded. Registration is required by February 13th and seating is limited. A light lunch and refreshments will be served.
All Lunch & Learn sessions will be held on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 12 to 1 PM. with the exception of some dates due to holidays.
We hope you can join us for these important sessions hosted by the Office of Health Research!
