This event is in the past.
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The WSU Humanities Center invites faculty, students, staff, and the community to a Brown Bag given by Victoria Stewart (Assistant Director, Humanities Center) on the topic of, "The Public Humanities in Teaching, Research, and Student Professional Development".
Abstract: In a time when educators feel increasing strain on their time and resources, how can professors take on public engagement without compromising other parts of their workload or adding to already existing work-life imbalances? Engaging the public humanities through classroom work can positively impact multiple areas of concern including research output, student professional development, and community outreach/service. Through the public humanities, professors not only contribute to the visibility of the university outside of its traditional boundaries, but they also offer evidence of the importance of the humanities in education and public life. We will examine how to maximize research outputs, reach new audiences, and accompany students in career discernment and professional development throughout their education. Finally, several on-ramps to public humanities classroom projects offered by the Humanities Center will be explored, allowing professors to easily shape classroom experiences and personal expertise into high impact programs.
