Great Lakes Indigenous Fisheries Postdoctoral Fellow, Great Lakes Fishery Commission

Salmon, stewardship and governance: Bridging knowledge systems in southwestern Alaska

This talk will highlight Indigenous stewardship practices, knowledge systems and governance mechanisms pertaining to salmon in the Kuskokwim Region of southwestern Alaska. The presenter will discuss the importance of youth engagement in Indigenous-led, and community-engaged research, and elevate results from bridging knowledge systems and perspectives on the state of salmon management and research in the Kuskokwim Region.  The presenter will offer insight regarding opportunities to improve salmon management for future generations to come. The speaker will close with a transition to the relational work and initiatives taking place in Gitchigami (the Great Lakes) with Tribes and First Nations.
