The WSU Humanities Center invites faculty, students, staff, and the community to a Brown Bag presentation given by Heather Macali (Associate Professor, Art, Art History, and Design) entitled, "Structured Color".

Abstract: Structured Color explores the relationship between color, structure, and material through the creation of self-shaping woven textiles using hand-spun yarn and waffle weave structures. The event will offer a brief overview of this ongoing research, followed by an in-person look at the tools and materials that shape the work. Participants will engage with fibers, cloth samples, and process materials, and experience demonstrations using a spinning wheel. The session will highlight waffle weave construction, optical effects, and the use of acid dyes to achieve precise color values, offering insight into how intentional material choices generate dimensional, visually dynamic woven forms.

*Note: This Brown Bag will take place in Old Main room 2155.
