La Academia del Pueblo Latina/o/x and Latin American Studies Research Conference
Noon to 5 p.m.
2026 Theme
Latinidad, Libertad, y Memoria: "I, Too, Am America"
La Academia del Pueblo seeks to deliberately establish connections between the academy, engaged citizens and urban communities. This year, our conference explores the intersections of Latinidad and the contested meanings of freedom in America—its unrealized promises, partial victories, and ongoing betrayals—across past, present, and future-oriented frameworks.
Keynote speaker
Martina Guzmán, is a nationally recognized, award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker known for reporting on race, justice, and systemic inequality. A lifelong Detroiter and graduate of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, she is recognized for her community reporting, investigative journalism, and efforts to address disinformation in Spanish-language media.
