Revisiting Empowering Responses: Handling Disclosures with Compassion | New Faculty Seminar Series
This event is in the past.
Join the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development and the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education (OSVPE) at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, for a revisit of this workshop on responding to disclosures of sexual violence with care and confidence. Due to the lively discussion in the first session, we ran out of time and are continuing the conversation.
Designed for new faculty, this session moves beyond basic compliance to focus on the human impact of how we respond when students share their experiences, often in brief, unexpected moments between classes or after office hours.
Participants will learn practical, trauma-informed strategies for responding empathetically in the moment, understanding how intersecting identities shape disclosure experiences, recognizing trauma responses (such as freeze or fawn) as survival mechanisms rather than measures of credibility, and setting healthy boundaries while connecting students to specialized support through OSVPE.
This webinar is offered to support new faculty institutional familiarization, but all are welcome.
