Abstract

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become a well-established tool in many architecture, planning, and construction disciplines. However, its adoption within structural engineering remains comparatively limited, particularly in Germany. This seminar will provide an overview of key BIM principles and explore the unique challenges associated with integrating BIM into structural engineering practice. The presentation will examine current barriers to implementation, including technical, organizational, and workflow-related issues, and discuss the changes needed to facilitate broader adoption within the profession. Finally, the seminar will offer perspectives on the future role of BIM in structural engineering and highlight opportunities for advancing collaboration and efficiency across the design and construction process.
