Dr. Gaur is an ecohydrologist from University of Michigan using computational modeling methods to study the interactions between hydrological and ecological processes. Dr. Gaur combines modeling and simulation with computer learning, remote sensing, and field data collection. Join us for Dr. Gaur's seminar:
Understanding Interactions Between Hydrological and Ecological Processes Through Computational Modeling
Understanding the interaction between hydrological and ecological processes lies at the core of my research interests. I am a hydrologist whose work spans the fields of hydro-climatology, data science, eco-hydrology, and geo-informatics. My research focuses on: 1) understanding the mechanistic hydrological extremes (snowfall extremes, flooding, drought, and heatwaves) under global warming and their impact on water resources and social well-being 2) sustainable and integrated land and water resources management through robust and innovative approaches to fine-tune hydrological modeling systems; 3) the critical role of water in controlling ecosystem functions and, conversely, the feedbacks of ecosystem and biotic processes on the water balance; and 4) the impacts of climate and land surface property changes on regional hydro-climatology, and, vice-versa, the feedbacks of changing hydrological regimes on regional climate. The techniques involved in my research include modeling and simulation, machine learning, remote sensing, and field data collection.
