Astronomy at the Beach

Location: Island Lake Recreation Area, Brighton MI

Join the WSU Planetarium and all the regional astronomy clubs for a night under the stars! Astronomy at the Beach is the largest star party in metro Detroit, held over two nights each fall. Rain or shine we'll be there with telescopes, lectures, events and more. This free event is open to everyone.

This year's theme: Artemis - return to the moon!

Friday schedule:

4:00 – 6:00 PM: Solar Observing with Astronomers – Telescope field
6:00 – 6:45 PM: Tour of the Solar System, and Beyond! – Presentation by Bob Trembley
7:00 – 7:30 PM: How to Make a Comet – Michigan Science Center
7:45 – 8:45 PM: Life in the Universe – Keynote Speaker Dale Partin
8:30 –11:30 PM: Night Sky Observing with Astronomers – Telescope field
9:00 – 9:50 PM: Aurora in the Solar System – Presentation by Lavanya Kannan
10:30 – 11:30 PM: Laser Tour of the Night Sky – Telescope field

The Wayne State University Planetarium will be in the tent with our diffraction glasses and sharing information about the moon. We hope to see you there!

Please note that a State Parks Recreation Passport is required for each vehicle that enters the park, and can be purchased at the park entrance gate if you do not have one for your vehicle.
