Hippocampal Subfield Volumes Across the Human Lifespan: Insights into Age-Related Risk and Protective Factors of Memory Decline

by
Roya Homayouni
Postdoctoral Fellow, IOG, Wayne State University

A large body of literature has documented substantial memory decline in late life, with some individuals showing more accelerated decline than others. Less understood is how health-related factors earlier in life may influence the neural correlates of memory—hippocampal subfields—and contribute to faster cognitive decline. This talk will discuss the significance of a lifespan approach and hippocampal subfield investigations for understanding memory decline and will present recent empirical work examining the contribution of cardiometabolic risk factors to hippocampal subfield and memory aging in later life.

Join us on campus at WSU’s Freer House, one block north of the Detroit Institute of Arts, or register in advance to attend on Zoom.
