3rd Annual James and Janice Prochaska Lecture with Dr. John Norcross

The Wayne State University School of Social Work and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Psychology are proud to host the 2026 James and Janice Prochaska Annual Lecture featuring keynote speaker John C. Norcross, Ph.D., ABPP.  An internationally recognized expert on behavior change and psychotherapy, Norcross is The Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Scranton, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University, and a board-certified clinical psychologist. 

Calling on his 35 years of clinical psychology practice, more than 400 scholarly publications and 23 co-written or edited books, including acclaimed self-help books Changeology and Changing for Good (with Prochaska & DiClemente), Norcross will present "Personalizing Psychotherapy: Stages of Change, Patient Preferences, and Beyond".

Norcross' work has been featured in hundreds of media interviews, and he has appeared dozens of times on national television, such as the Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, BBC, Anderson Cooper 360, and Good Morning America. An engaging teacher and clinician, John has conducted workshops and lectures in 40 countries.

Two free social work or psychology CE's are available for this event.

The James and Janice Prochaska Annual Lecture Series was established through a generous gift from the Prochaska family. James O. Prochaska co-developed the "Stages of Change" model — an influential framework that has transformed how clinicians approach behavioral health. Janice M. Prochaska, PhD, James’ wife and an alumna of Wayne State’s School of Social Work, has also contributed to the development of behavior change programs that have helped countless individuals.

Continuing Education:

Pre-registration for CE's is required via the RSVP form. All attendees seeking CE's must sign in and out at the event and stay for the full duration. Attendees will then receive an email after the event with details on when they will receive their digital CE certificate.

• Two (2) Psychology CE's are available to attendees for FREE. The Wayne State University Department of Psychology is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
