Join the Wayne State University Humanities Center, the Wayne State University Department of Classical and Modern Literatures, Languages & Cultures (CMLLC), and the Hellenic Museum of Michigan in a one-day, out-loud reading of the world's most beloved epic poem. Inspiring works of culture from sculpture to Hollywood blockbusters, this story has it all. Come in person or over Zoom and either listen or help to read a portion of the epic out loud. Our experts will help us see the story in ways we haven't seen it before, and at the end of the day, we will have read a challenging and rewarding book.

This event will begin at 8:00 am Eastern Daylight Time and conclude by 10:00 pm.

The Big Epic Read is free and open to the public. Due to the subject matter of some of the poems, this event is not recommended for children.

Copies of the epic will be provided, or you may use any verse translation you have.
