AI, Gender-Based Violence, and Safety: DVAM 2026 Symposium - Students and campus community
Noon to 4 p.m.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). Join the Wayne State University Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education for a day of learning, connection, and action at the AI, Gender-Based Violence, and Safety Symposium.
Deepfakes. Sextortion. Impersonation. Digital stalking. Online harassment.
Technology-facilitated harm is real, evolving, and touching safety, well-being, trust, and belonging across our communities. Recognizing it, responding with care, and taking action is a responsibility we share.
Our guest keynote speaker, Sloan Thompson, Director of Education & AI Initiatives at EndTAB, is a leading voice on AI, relationships, digital safety, and technology-facilitated abuse. Sloan brings practical, trauma-informed insight to help participants understand emerging risks, strengthen survivor-centered support, and build safer digital communities.
This symposium is designed for students, staff, faculty, and the campus community at large. Participants will gain practical knowledge and tools to recognize digital harm, respond with care, support those affected, and contribute to a safer, more informed Wayne State University campus community. Turn awareness into action.
This event is open and free to the public. Registration & RSVP are required to attend.
Symposium Program Schedule:
12:00 - 1:00 p.m. - Lunch is served
1:00 - 4:00 p.m. - "Swipe Smart, Stand Up, Stay Safe" (students, staff, faculty and community) Campus Symposium, keynote, panel discussion, and interactive learning
