Join Wayne State University's anthropology department for a special event dedicated to education and history during Public Archaeology Day. Fifteen students and several alumni volunteers will excavate the site of the former UAW Dodge Main Local 3 union hall in Hamtramck, as part of an archaeological field methods class taught by renowned archaeologist Dr. Krysta Ryzewski.

Local 3 operated at the site from the 1930s until Dodge Main closed in 1979 and it was the site of major labor history events, including the Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement (1968-1971). The course gives students hands-on field training while contributing to public education efforts. The work is supported through a partnership with the Hamtramck Historical Museum and access to the UAW Local 3 archive at Wayne State's Walter P. Reuther Library.
