Stepping into academia as a new faculty member often comes with a sense of purpose and excitement. At the same time, the expectations around research productivity, student engagement, service responsibilities, and maintaining personal balance can feel constant and overwhelming. The ongoing pressure to perform, be present, and remain visible in every space can gradually contribute to burnout; however, we aim to shift that narrative.

Join us for this session at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, where we will utilize guided reflection to help new faculty identify stressors, connect their values to their work, and make intentional choices that support workplace wellness and long-term success.

By reframing mental health as essential to professional effectiveness, not separate from it, this session empowers new faculty to establish a foundation of clarity, care, and courage as they begin their academic careers at Wayne State University.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize early signs of burnout and stress that are common among new faculty.
  • Explore mental wellness strategies to strengthen energy, focus, and emotional resilience.
  • Develop a personalized self-leadership plan to set boundaries and make intentional decisions.
  • Reflect on how aligning daily choices with personal and professional values enhances well-being and performance.

This webinar is offered to support new faculty institutional familiarization, but all are welcome. This will be a virtual session.
