Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: Theory and Application in Clinical Practice
10 a.m. to noon
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a postmodern, strengths-based therapeutic approach that is brief, goal-directed, future-oriented, and focused on identifying solutions rather than dwelling on problems. This practical approach emphasizes clients as experts in their own lives and utilizes collaborative dialogue to explore strengths, resources, exceptions, and possibilities for change. Grounded in evidence-informed practice, SFBT supports clinicians in helping clients identify meaningful goals, build hope, and recognize existing capacities for change. Participants will explore key SFBT concepts and conversational techniques, including exploring pre-session change, developing client-centered goals, exception questions, scaling questions, coping questions, and present- and future-focused interventions. In this CEU course, participants will gain an understanding of the theoretical foundations of SFBT, explore its application in clinical practice, and identify ways this approach can support effective, strengths-based interventions with diverse client populations across clinical settings.
