“HOW CAN I HELP?” Working with Parents Coping with Mental Illness
12:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Providing supportive services for parents experiencing mental health challenges requires a thorough, consistent, and empathetic approach. An estimated 57% of men and 68% of women living with mental health conditions are parents, making mental illness among caregivers relatively common (Komis C., 2023). This training provides participants with valuable education on common mental health diagnoses among parents, interactive supportive tools, and effective strategies for collaboratively addressing the needs of parents and families.
Using a solution-focused and empathetic approach, attendees will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of common mental health disorders among parents, understand the helping process as a foundational method for meeting parents’ needs, and support parents in achieving baseline stability through empathetic empowerment. Additional focus will be placed on the importance of positive regard, cultural awareness, and the impact of stigma in order to strengthen community-centered service delivery.
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Attendees can obtain 3 social work CECH’s upon completion of the training, payment receipt and passing of the post-training quiz. A CECH certificate will be available for download upon completion of the aforementioned items.
COST: Free to all MDHHS workers and MDHHS contracted private agencies; $30 all others.
All attendees must RSVP for this training. Attendees will receive the Zoom link via email upon completion of the RSVP and payment.
