The Black Student Union, Department of African American Studies and Division of Government and Community Affairs welcome national speaker, Derrick Johnson, NAACP President and CEO, for a Discussion on Civil Rights and Activism as we celebrate Black History Month. This timely topic will explore the role activism plays in the continued effort to ensure complete civil rights for all. Native Detroiter Derrick Johnson has been President and CEO of the NAACP since October of 2017. President Johnson formerly served as vice chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors, as well as state president for the Mississippi State Conference NAACP. President Johnson is frequently featured on CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC and many others, advocating on behalf of the Black community and all those who are affected by systemic oppression and prejudice.
