The Division of Government and Community Affairs, Organization of Black Alumni and other partners are hosting a panel discussion, Detroit History is Black History. From the Underground Railroad to Black Bottom to the Shrine of the Black Madonna, Detroit’s Black history runs deep. Moderator Orlando Bailey, Bridge Detroit Engagement Director, will guide Dr. Kefentse Chike, WSU Professor of African American Studies; Daniel Baxter, Executive Director, Dr. Ossian H. Sweet Foundation; Ken Coleman, Historian and Senior Reporter, Michigan Advance; and Sharon Sexton, Author, Filmmaker and Chair of the Black Historic Site Committee, as they discuss Detroit’s Black history from the 1800’s to present day.
