Professor Gladys Mitchell-Walthour examines the lives and struggles of poor Black women in Brazil and the United States. She examines how these women navigate a system that oppresses them and provides benefits. It is a complicated reality. In her new book, Professor Mitchell-Walthour highlights the creativity and community networks that have been keys to this reality for Black women.
