Each spring the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts’ Journalism Area of the Department of Communication bestows the Spirit of Diversity Award on a journalist whose professional contributions have been national in scope and have advanced the cause of diversifying issues covered in America’s news media.

The 2018 Journalism Institute for Media Diversity Spirit of Diversity Awards Reception takes place Friday, April 6 honoring Southern Poverty Law Center co-founder Morris Dees, WWJ Newsradio 950 Reporter and National Association of Black Journalists Region II Director Vickie Thomas and the late journalist, media personality and WSU alumnus Cliff Russell
