Join the Wayne State University Libraries and Art Collection at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 at the Purdy/Kresge Library for wine, hors d’oeuvres and a tour of the new artwork on display throughout the building. After a short program from featured artists Carole Harris, Desiree Kelly and Shirley Woodson Reid, guests can take a self-guided tour of the artwork while learning more about the collection from Wayne State University Art Collection Curator Grace Serra. The new installation of works from the University Art Collection showcases a variety of local and nationally recognized artists that reflect the Wayne State student population. Work from Shiva Ahmadi, Tyree Guyton, Hughie Lee-Smith, Rashaun Rucker, Farah Al Qasimi and many more artists are part of the exhibit.
“The pieces selected for the Purdy Kresge library reflect the rich diversity of our student population and community as a whole,” said Serra. “They not only creative welcoming spaces for study and gathering, but they also inspire innovation and teach students about the richness of all cultures through art.”
Space is limited so please RSVP if you would like to join us for this celebration of art and libraries. Parking information and current COVID-19 protocol details will be provided with your RSVP.
