The Duffy Speaker Series is a lecture series presented by the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Wayne State University. The series invites distinguished artists and designers to campus to address students and the art community for lectures, reviews, and studio visits. The Duffy Speaker Series is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first serve.

Monika Sinclair is an authentic force in fashion marketing and applied visual communication, operating from the vibrant city of Detroit. With a sharp focus on consumer behavior and sustainable retail development, she leverages her deep understanding of consumer psychology to craft culturally resonant brand strategies. Monika’s ability to help brands forge meaningful connections with their audiences sets her apart as a true innovator in the fashion industry. 

Her career took flight with the adidas Fashion Group, where she immersed herself in various roles that shaped her holistic approach to branding. From trend forecasting to advertising campaign management, influencer strategy to fashion show production, Monika played a pivotal role in several high-profile collaborations with renowned designers such as Yohji Yamamoto, Jeremy Scott, Raf Simons, Rick Owens, and Stella McCartney. Her influence extended across major brand collaborations including Porsche Design, Opening Ceremony, Muhammad Ali, and Tom Dixon. Beyond adidas, she worked with top-tier brands in sportswear and men’s fashion, including Rick Owens, Amazon, Spyder, Tapout, Prince Tennis, Airwalk, and Hart Schaffner Marx. 

Today, Monika serves as a strategy consultant, guiding brands in and beyond the fashion industry through cutting-edge design research and innovative brand strategies.  

In academia, Monika has shared her expertise with students as a faculty member at New York University, The Fashion Institute of Technology, and Savannah College of Art and Design. Since 2020, she has been a valued member of the faculty at Wayne State University, continuing to inspire the next generation of fashion professionals.
