The Wayne State University Libraries and Art Collection are partnering to host an opening of “Art of Discourse,” an art exhibition exploring the powerful and polarizing issue of gun control at 6 p.m. on Nov. 13 in the Purdy/Kresge Library.

Contributing to the University’s Year of Focus initiative, which focuses on dialogue and discourse in divisive times, the exhibit will showcase nearly 40 works of art from the University Art Collection featuring various Detroit artists covering different aspects of gun violence, from hunting to the revolution to police brutality, as well as two series of prints by political satirist William Gropper, “Watergate” and “Capriccios,” which focus on the ineptitude of government.

College of Liberal Arts and Science Dean Stephanie Hartwell will deliver a keynote on the gun violence in the United States and using art as a medium to encourage constructive dialogue while University Library Dean Paul Bracke and Serra will share opening remarks.

This event is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be served.
