This event is in the past.

Professor Mitchell-Walthour will discuss the increasing number of Black women politicians and the intersectional issues they address. She will draw upon some of her early research to examine how Black women politicians explicitly address issues of sexism, racism, transphobia, and classism and how their methods of addressing these issues during their campaigns have changed using social media. Finally, she will explore the future possibilities of Black women politicians winning elections for high-level positions such as governor, mayor, and federally elected positions.
