Since May 2020, Dr. Jerry Dunifer, Emeritus Professor of Physics and Astronomy, has been wowing audiences through interactive journeys to exotic locations. This time (our 11th journey together) we'll visit two sites connected to space programs. At the Kennedy Space Center, we'll join an international group of members of The Planetary Society. We'll meet personnel associated with the leadership of the Society, including Bill Nye, the Science Guy, and the CEO of the organization. At the end of the evening, we'll witness the launch of Falcon Heavy, currently the most powerful rocket in the World. Included in the payload will be LightSail 2, a project of the Planetary Society to put into orbit a satellite with a sail that uses beams of sunlight to generate a propulsive force on the satellite. For our second visit, we'll go to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland for a private tour to see the James Webb Space Telescope under construction. On Christmas Day, 2021, this telescope was successfully launched into orbit and is now undergoing testing and calibrations prior to full use within the next few months. While at the Goddard Space Flight Center we'll also meet a couple of astronauts who just returned from several months on the International Space Station.
