A Presidential Sesquicentennial Symposium

Join us Thursday, October 25, 2018, for Free and Responsible Speech in the Academy: Empowering Diversity on Contentious Issues, where we will examine the practical and idealistic ways scholars have tried to ensure the broadest possible campus conversations, particularly in times of social unrest and divisions where these conversations are more important and more difficult.

Keynote speaker Dr. Lee C. Bollinger, a First Amendment scholar who has spent more than 20 years as an administrator at the University of Michigan and at Columbia University, will offer his perspective of what it's like to guide a campus-wide conversation that focuses on different topics over the decades and has situated itself within an urban culture. This symposium is a collaboration between Wayne State University faculty from philosophy, the Humanities Center, and the School of Law, and one of six symposia developed in honor of the university's sesquicentennial. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program begins at 9 a.m. in the Student Center Ballroom

Continental breakfast will be provided. This event is free, seating is limited and reservations are mandatory. Make your reservation or get more information about Free an Responsible Speech in the Academy at https://rsvp.wayne.edu/freespeech
