The Wayne State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Psychology and School of Social Work are proud to host the 2022 James and Janice Prochaska Annual Lecture featuring keynote speakers Blanche B. Cook, JD, Curt and Linda Rodin Associate Professor of Law and Social Justice at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law and Stacey Floyd-Thomas, PhD, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Chair and Associate Professor of Ethics and Society at Vanderbilt University will present "Do No Harm: Interrogating Implicit Biases as Healthcare Professionals".

In this three-hour interactive virtual lecture, Cook and Floyd-Thomas will provide information and insight on the corrupting influence of implicit bias on service providers, the learning process, and service provision generally. We will focus on strategies, activities, and best practices to use in the service provision process to candidly and thoughtfully discuss issues related to race and racism, in general, and the impact of implicit bias on diagnosis, treatment, and care. Participants will leave with specific tools to help them more proactively facilitate service provision that is able to identify, understand, discuss, and combat racism as well as cultivate appreciation for diversity in its many forms.

As of June 1, 2022 the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires implicit bias training for health care professionals. This event fulfills that requirement.

Continuing Education: Pre-registration for CE's is requested via the RSVP form. All attendees seeking CE's must sign-in at the event and stay for the full duration. Attendees will then receive an email after the event with a short quiz and details on when they will receive their digital CE certificate.
