Just Poetry
This event is in the past.
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Wayne State's Center for Behavioral Health & Justice is proud to announce the 4th iteration of Just Poetry! This community-based event will feature community members speaking to their views and experiences with the justice system via poetry and spoken word. Presenters from a range of backgrounds will share their work throughout the evening, including nationally recognized Detroit performance poets, previously incarcerated individuals, victims of violence, and individuals with incarcerated loved ones. This year's event focuses generally on the long-standing practice of sentencing juveniles to life without parole sentences, and includes voices of people who are currently or were previously serving such sentences, their family members, victims, and people from the legal and advocacy communities.
The event is free and open to the public (18+). Come listen and connect! Over 200 guests attended prior iterations of Just Poetry so seating is limited and first-come, first-serve.
