The Human Health Aspects of Plastic Chemicals and Nanoplastics
Thursday February 18, 2021 12:30- 1:30 PM
Presented by:
Martin Wagner, Ph.D.
Associate Professor at Norwegian University of Science & Technology, Trondheim, Norway
Dr. Wagner is an Associate Professor for environmental toxicology at the Norwegian University for Science and Technology in Trondheim. His main research interest is in the impacts of plastics and plastics-associated chemicals on freshwater ecosystems and human health. To study this, he works at the interface of ecology, toxicology, and chemistry combining in vitro, in vivo, and mass spectrometry approaches to characterize the total toxicity of complex samples (e.g., leachates of plastic materials). He also applies effect-directed chemical analysis to identify novel compounds causing the observed toxicity. With this approach he aims at contributing to a more holistic understanding human and environmental exposomes. As world-leading expert on the societal and environmental impacts of plastics, he is consulting high-level policymakers (UN, EC, World Bank) and is frequently featured by international media.
