An open house-style public meeting to provide an overview of the plans for a "road diet" on M-5 (Grand River Avenue) to convert seven lanes to five lanes with bike lanes and some on-street parking. Interested parties will have the opportunity to review the project details and locations, and ask questions.

Background:

As part of ongoing efforts to improve nonmotorized access, the City of Detroit and MDOT are proposing to add protected bike lanes on M-5 between I-94 and Cass Avenue.

The road diet is part of the $1.5 million project on M-5 that includes resurfacing and sidewalk reconstruction between the I-94 service drive and Cass Avenue. Once the resurfacing and sidewalk work is complete, new pavement markings will applied that will provide fewer lanes for cars and trucks, and expand areas for bikes and some parking. Overall, work is expected to be completed in September.
