Abstract

Electric vehicles (EVs) that derive all or some of their momentum from an external electricity source are promising alternatives to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles and have gained significant attention in recent years. To help grow the EV market, robust and reliable EV charging infrastructures are needed that meet the needs of EV drivers and minimize the impact of EVs on local and regional electricity grids. The operation of energy systems in the presence of EVs needs a comprehensive model for managing electricity demand of driver's behavior. In this seminar, techno-economic-socio analysis of integrating EV charging infrastructure into smart and connected communities will be discussed. First, an intelligent approach will be presented for residential building load scheduling including shiftable loads considering EVs charging demand as a shiftable demand. Then, techno-economic-socio management of EV charging stations will be discussed with a standpoint of energy management tools, social equity access, and mobile charging stations for EV charging services. The main characteristic of this model is developing EV mobile charging stations accessibility measures and quantifying the equity impacts of EV mobile charging stations’ locations by modeling prioritized demand based on several indices as well as determining the optimal set-points of charging station components (i.e., combined heat and power, photovoltaic system, energy storage, and mobile charging stations) to manage electrical peak demand and to maximize the economic benefits of the charging station.

Biography
