Edward S. Thomas achieved great things by doing the right thing well. The Edward S. Thomas Section of Community and Public Health in Emergency Medicine at the Wayne State University School of Medicine established an endowed fund at the time of Edward’s retirement from the presidency of Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center. Please join us for the Second Annual Edward S. Thomas Golf Outing on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Detroit Golf Club, hosted by the Department of Emergency Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine to benefit the endowment.
The Edward S. Thomas Golf Outing celebrates his legacy. He was a friend, mentor, colleague and an inspiration to the many who worked with him. This event is not only a tribute to this great man, but it is also a fundraising event for the Edward S. Thomas Section of Community Health which is a non-profit entity for our current outreach efforts and resources to improve the health of our community. It also promotes community and public health using the Emergency Department as a portal for both initial patient contact and provisions or translational care.
Our vision is to develop community and public health perspectives as an essential component of medical care in the city of Detroit. This will be done by promoting early diagnosis and linkage to care for chronic conditions that matter most to our community, such as HIV, hepatitis C, diabetes, and hypertension, while also working to break the cycle of interpersonal violence. The Thomas Section seeks to reduce disparities in health and improve the quality of life and life expectancy for the citizens of Detroit.
