The Coalition to End Unconstitutional Tax Foreclosures will host its first People's Forum on Saturday, June 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Wayne Law. Parking is free in Lot 32, across from the Law School. The goal of the event is to educate the community about unconstitutional assessments in Detroit and to create a restorative justice strategy to address the thousands of people who were foreclosed upon due to unconstitutional assessments. Between 2009 and 2015, the City of Detroit assessed 55% to 85% of its properties in violation of the Michigan Constitution. Unable to pay the resulting illegally inflated property taxes, more than 100,000 of Detroit's working families lost their homes.
